Description

LAKEWOOD, CO — Lakewood's annual Neighborhood Participation Program provides grants to fund improvement projects in local communities, and applications will be accepted until March 5, officials said. For 27 years, the program has helped pay for enhancements such as sidewalk and bicycle path connections, picnic facilities, playgrounds at neighborhood parks, community gardens, artwork and other projects. Grants of up to $60,000 are available for a project, and a total of $160,000 will be awarded in 2021. To be eligible, projects must provide a benefit to the entire neighborhood and must be on public property, officials said. Applications must come from an organized group representing their neighborhood and include a petition demonstrating neighborhood support. Like what you're reading? "Project proposals compete directly with other proposals and are evaluated based on criteria including the benefit to the neighborhood, health and safety, compliance with the Lakewood Comprehensive Plan and the Community Resources Department's Comprehensive Master Plan, as well as neighborhood support and maintenance requirements," the city of Lakewood said in a news release. Lakewood City Council makes the final selection of the projects that will receive grants. Applications and more information about the requirements are available here. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. March 5.
