TOMS RIVER, NJ — A winter storm that dropped several inches of snow across New Jersey on Sunday has prompted Toms River Regional School District officials to shift to remote instruction for Monday's classes. The National Weather Service forecast was for snow and slush to turn icy overnight as temperatures drop, making driving hazardous on Monday. The Toms River school district does not have emergency closure days built into the school calendar for 2020-2021, so closing school completely would require the district to extend the school year in June to make up the day. Monday's schedule will be four hours of instruction. The hybrid learning bell schedule for the schools is on the district website here. Toms River had received 3 inches of snow by 2:30 p.m., according to a report from a trained spotter to the weather service.
