JOLIET, IL — A 20-year-old Plainfield area man remains in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say he brought a gun and ammunition to a step relative's house early Saturday morning. Police say that Tomas Alcaraz-Bautista was not welcome at the house. Now, the young man remains in the Will County Jail facing a $100,000 bail in connection with his charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition and obstructing a peace officer. Around 5:30 a.m., Joliet squad cars rolled up to the house in the 1800 block of Sergeant Lane after learning that an unwelcome person was on the property. Police found Alcaraz on the front porch and learned that his step-relative did not want him at the house, reports show. When Joliet police tried to conduct a pat down search, the 20-year-old ran away and officers chased after him. Sergeant Lane is near Route 59 and Theodore Street. "Officers caught up to Alcaraz near the 4700 block of Goodhue Lane and placed him into custody after a brief struggle," police reports reflect. Joliet police found several live ammunition rounds inside Alcaraz's pockets, reports state. Not far from the scene of the arrest, Joliet police recovered a handgun that had been tossed on the other side of the fence, Joliet police said.
