LIVERMORE, CA — A solo driver was traveling Westbound along the I-205 on his way home from work Friday night when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and plunged into the cold waters of the Tracy Aqueduct, authorities said. A passerby who saw the vehicle fall into the water called emergency officials at 6:29 p.m., Joanna Leal, public affairs manager for the Alameda County Fire Department told Patch. The vehicle crashed into the water between the I-205 and I-580 near Grant Line Road, Leal said. There, Tracy Engine 94 spotted the man clinging to the side of the aqueduct. A Dublin California Highway Patrol officer helped fire officials pull the man from the water using a rope, the CHP in Dublin tweeted Saturday. "A rope with loop was used to assist the patient who was able to walk up the side of the aqueduct," Alameda County Fire officials tweeted. From there, the incident was turned over to the CHP to pull the car from the water. The man was taken to a hospital in unknown condition and was likely urged to seek medical attention due to the amount of time he spent in the frigid water, Leal said. There were no other victims reported and it was unknown whether alcohol or impaired driving was a factor, Leal said. "He said he was driving home from work," Leal said. The man was rescued in a collaborative effort between the Alameda County Fire Department, San Joaquin County Fire Authority, Tracy Engine 94 and The CHP in Dublin. At 6:29 pm, ACFD and the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority responded to reports of a vehicle off 580 into the Aqueduct near Grant Line Road. With the assistance of CHP, Tracy Engine 94 located a single occupant clinging to side of the aqueduct...(cont.) pic.twitter.com/ieThhN6EDm— Alameda County Fire (@AlamedaCoFire) February 6, 2021
