Press release from Mayor Bozajian: Feb. 8, 2021 Good morning, The numbers on COVID keep improving. New cases are way down from their high around the first of the year. ICU available capacity is also up. You may recall that a few weeks ago, the Southern California Region's ICU available capacity sat at zero percent. That number is now close to 10%. State projections say that by the end of this month, that number may be as high as 44%. This better news is tempered by the fact that COVID deaths are still very high. Deaths are a lagging indicator and are usually 2-3 weeks behind hospitalization statistics. We are in that period where positive cases and hospitalizations are way down, but deaths have not yet dropped. Health experts are confident the number of COVID deaths will start dropping soon. One big problem is still the availability of the COVID vaccine. Healthcare workers and those 65 and older are being vaccinated, but the vaccine is still in short supply. The County's web site, www.vaccinatelacounty.com, is still the way to make an appointment. Public health experts tell us to keep trying the web site and eventually, anyone who wants the vaccine will be able to get it. The Mayor's Youth Council will hold its first general meeting on 2-9-21. Calabasas youth between the ages of 14 and 21, who want to volunteer with their peers on local, civic-related projects are encouraged to become involved in the Youth Council. The link to next week's meeting agenda is https://bit.ly/2NVChDJ. The next City Council meeting is set for 2-10-21. Among the matters for the Council's consideration is the Mulholland Highway Corridor Feasibility Study. This is an informational item only but provides a conceptual design for the Mulholland Highway Corridor that includes future road and safety improvements. The report, along with the entire Council agenda, can be viewed here https://bit.ly/3cKNFwM The City of Calabasas will soon celebrate its 30th Anniversary (4-5-21), and we have begun preparations for several exciting events to mark this milestone in our history. Some of these will be deferred until later in the year when we hope to hold them in person. We will soon be publicizing the variety of activities we have planned.
