Learn about cemetery preservation best practices and on site restoration methods at Pleasant Garden Cemetery. Date: Saturday, March 20, with a back-up date of April 3. If there are freezing temperatures within 23 hours of the scheduled workshop the workshop will have to be postponed until April 3rd for materials to work properly. Time: 9-11 a.m. Eastern Time for the Zoom presentation, 12:30-3:30 p.m. for the on-site demonstration and cleaning Location: Pleasant Garden Cemetery, near the concrete-paved entrance, with parking along Rowe Rd Participants will learn basic hands-on techniques for cleaning tombstones, as well as state laws concerning cemeteries and best practices for documentation. If you would like to bring your own supplies, please be sure to consult which ones are appropriate in the Intro Guide to Cemetery Cleaning. We will be practicing social distancing and, as per MTSU policy, requesting that participants wear face masks. This workshop is a partnership event with the Friends group for Pleasant Garden Cemetery and Beck Knob Cemetery and taught by Stacey Graham from the MTSU Center for Historic Preservation.
