Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. As a member of the City Light custodial crew, this position will lead a small group of janitors and perform janitorial tasks at various City Light facilities. The shift hours will be 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and will rotate on a 6 month basis between routes which may include changing sites. This position will report to the Building/Facilities Operations Supervisor. Job Responsibilities: Leads, trains, and evaluates the work of a small group of janitors in cleaning and servicing assigned areas located at City Light campuses and facilities. Serves on hiring interview panel, handles disputes within crew. Develops work plans for crews including scheduling and assigning work. Cleans restrooms, facilities, and offices in assigned buildings and building areas. Gathers and disposes of trash and waste; replenishes restroom supplies; washes walls and windows, dusts furniture, polishes metal work. Collects and recycles paper to reduce disposal cost; monitors volume, checks for contaminants and initiates removal. Cleans lighting fixtures, windows, window sills, screens, tops of windows, door frames, and other high areas. Cleans, waxes, and polishes floors; operates mechanical cleaners and polishers. Assists in moving furniture and other objects on occasional basis. Sweeps outside areas and sidewalks and removes trash. Performs basic maintenance work on equipment. Reports evidence of damage and vandalism. Assists in maintaining routine accounting records. Assists in the testing and researching of new products or equipment. Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned. Qualifications: Experience: Two years janitorial services experience (combination of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability). Certification/License: Washington State Driver's License Work Environment//Physical Demands: Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time. Frequently required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or less. Requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances. Required to work outdoors in all types of weather. Required to work on ladders/scaffolding above ground level. Desired Qualifications: Supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and successfully as part of a team. Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with good interpersonal skills.
