SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of a Tile Installer is to perform installations on walls, counters, and floors at a journeyman level. Performing at a journeyman level requires the knowledge of and skillsets to prepare / install all types of tile and stone according to ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and TCNA (Tile Council of America) standards POSITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible to prepare wall substrates using the lath & scratch method and float walls to within 1/4-inch in 10-feet. Responsible to float and slope shower pan receptors 1/4-inch per foot towards the drain. Weep holes to remain open. The maximum slope on the shower floor should be 1/2" inch per foot in any direction. Layouts should be centered or designated on predominate walls. Refer to the MODEL for all layouts and dimensions for all tiled areas and reference with diagrams if provided with work orders. Responsible to prepare tile flooring substrates to within 1/4-inch in 10-feet. Lippage is a condition where one edge of a tile is higher than the adjacent tile, giving the finished surface an uneven appearance. All tiles must be in accordance with ANSI – A137.1 specifications for ceramic tile. When required, cut tiles must have clean non-ragged edges. All installations to be set with Latex Modified Thin-set and will comply with ANSI 118.4 for Latex Modified Portland Cement Mortar. Responsible for training and instructing each assigned apprentice(s) in the skillsets necessary to assist with proper installation techniques Responsible for the grouting, buffing excess grout haze and clean up. Responsible for self inspecting all work upon completion to ensure all quality expectations have been met. When required, finished work will be signed off and accepted by the builder. Responsible for training and instructing each assigned apprentice(s) in the skillsets necessary to assist with proper installation techniques Responsible for building and maintaining interpersonal relationships with coworkers and builder Responsible to perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor or manager COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to properly prepare wall and flooring substrates to meet all industry specifications in which tiles are to be installed. Ability to read and understand work orders, blue prints, and correlate with diagrams showing designs using varying types of tile and stone. All work instructions are to be verified to match provided diagrams, and any discrepancies are to be resolved before installation begins. Ability to properly layout field tiles, trims, accents, and patterns to fit the areas to be tiled while achieving the intended design. Ability to install tile and stone flat, level, and true to a plane with minimal lippage as set forth by the TCNA Complete product knowledge and understanding of the appropriate use with different types of cement mortars / grouts, and epoxy mortars / grouts Must be able to work in and adjust to varying jobsite conditions typical in new home and commercial construction Ability to do mathematical calculations to estimate quantities, provide takeoffs when needed, and the ability to determine time, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity to a timely completion. Ability to communicate effectively and in an appropriate manner in writing and verbally. Ability to receive and follow instructions provided by builder representatives and immediate RDS Field Supervisor EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Preferred combined experience of 5 years as an apprentice and journeyman installer. Ability to work professionally and independently with a demonstrated capability to work in a team environment LANGUAGE SKILLS · English, Bilingual preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS Arm-Hand Steadiness -- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position Trunk Strength -- The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing Manual Dexterity -- The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects Extent Flexibility -- The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs Static Strength -- The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects Dynamic Strength -- The ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue Handling and Moving Objects -- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things WORK ENVIRONMENT Job duties will be performed primarily at the job site which may be either residential or commercial Requires employee to be outdoors on a regular basis Will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures Noise level usually high WORK SCHEDULE Fulltime with some overtime TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Will be required to travel to multiple jobsites on a regular and ongoing basis Must have a valid drivers license and insurance that meets the companies requirements at all times
