Our Buildings The K-8 and High School buildings are located within walking distance of each other in the Holmesburg neighborhood of Philadelphia. Both buildings include recent renovations and are well-maintained to provide a positive learning environment for students and staff. Building highlights include bright and spacious classrooms, technology-enabled classrooms, science labs, gymnasiums with full size basketball courts, cafeterias and learning commons. The buildings are near major roadways with on-site parking for staff and within walking distance from the SEPTA Regional Rail Suburban station with trains to Center City. The Assistant Building Manager at New Foundations Charter School is expected to; Possess at least a High School Diploma or equivalent; Possess at least 7 years of experience as a maintenance professional; Possess knowledge of the requirements for maintaining school buildings or commercial facilities in a safe, clean, and orderly condition; Possess knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in general and advanced maintenance work; Be a team player and demonstrate flexibility and ease of working with all levels of staff and students; Be able to work independently to troubleshoot building issues and perform necessary repairs; Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, hardware, carpentry, construction and the ability to perform basic repairs in these areas; Be able to spend most of the work-day standing, lifting, bending and walking. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Responsibilities Building Management Assistance Perform more advanced repairs and building maintenance projects. Serve as the main point person for building maintenance when the Building Manager is off site or unavailable. Delegate minor projects or other tasks to maintenance team members. Balance building maintenance projects with ad hoc building issues. Interact with school staff on a daily basis providing excellent customer service for building maintenance requests. Maintenance and Custodial Support Regularly inspect facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary cleaning and repairs. Alert Building Manager of any facilities related deficiencies or safety hazards encountered during inspections. Perform minor repair work including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry. Respond to emergency or urgent situations (e.g. broken/clogged pipes/drains, faucets, gutters, sprinkler heads, grease traps, fixtures, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns. Respond to facilities related requests from staff in a prompt and courteous manner. Unload and receive deliveries of school materials and maintenance supplies. Perform janitorial duties during student lunch periods. Arrange furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom/playground activities, meals, and events. Install various items (e.g. gas and water pipes, sewer mains and laterals, faucets, cabinets, window glass, fixtures, etc.) to maintain facilities in a safe and attractive condition. Assist with classroom clean out and set up at the beginning and end of the school year. Perform special projects during school breaks that may require heavy lifting, light repair, and deep cleaning of school spaces. Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Professional Comportment Exhibit a professional image and demeanor at all times. Commit to continual professional growth. Attend professional development meetings and faculty/staff meetings when relevant. Support grade-level activities and school-wide functions throughout the school-year. Adhere to the school schedule and be punctual for work and meetings. Maintain an effective and positive relationship with colleagues, staff and supervisors. Professionally and effectively communicate with all colleagues, staff and supervisors. Other Become a member of the school community, building strong relationships and being highly engaged. Do whatever else is necessary or requested to provide students with the academic, social, and emotional foundations and skills necessary to become high achieving, socially competent stewards of their communities.
