Overview: This position includes work direction, coordination and oversight of a specific crew(s) ranging from 2-8 employees or subcontractors.  This position is responsible for overall safety, materials, reporting, customers, leadership, employee communication, and productivity measures. This position will specifically manage a crew over trench & plow operations which will include machine operation and work centered around joint trench jobs. This position must be able to interface with customer and city inspectors on a frequent basis, coordinate pre-construction meetings, keep detailed safety and production records, do as-builds as required and be a leader for all the crews. The ideal candidate will also need to be a skilled excavation operator. This position will also assist with getting permits, ensuring crew and site safety and calling locates. Position will be working out of town on regular basis or as business needs demand it. Responsibilities: Shoveling, digging, handling and operating construction equipment. Excavation operations including operating equipment General lead over work direction within a small crew or a group of sub-contractors. Assisting in securing site; employees and safety General maintenance General utility installation/repair May assist in either laborer or operator capacity as needed Other foreman related duties as assigned by direct manager Qualifications: 1-2 years of work related experience in underground utility construction preferred but not required. Valid Driver's License Any combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the designated job duties and responsibilities of the position. Ability to make common sense understanding to carry out instructions that are provided in written, oral or drawing. Ability to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in many varied situations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts (measurements in terms of distance, proportions, percentages and area. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics. Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as safety rules and requirements, machine manuals of operation and process procedures. Ability to write information including reports. Ability to speak effectively to customers, coworkers and vendors. Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license. Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening. Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed. May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends or be on-call as work is needed. May include working nights and holidays. May be required to travel in state, out of state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements. Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
