Land navigation training from a ranger and scout perspective
Must have previous bushcraft or wilderness survival training to attend. Do not sign up without first contacting instructor to verify eligibility. After verifying eligibility candidates will be given access code allowing them to purchase tickets. Ticket price is $525.
In this 4 day training in off trail travel students will learn basic and intermediate map and compass, navigation by terrain association, UTM coordinate system, low signature travel techniques, route planning and pathfinding, stealth camping principles, and more.
The first half of the first day will be a crash course in map and compass, then the rest of the course will occur on the trail with students learning by doing while guided by the instructor. This course is more of a workshop style course than a formal skills course.
This course is moderate in it's physical and mental requirements and occurs in harsh terrain. Students should expect to walk 40-50 miles during the course.
The course focuses on traditional and scout/ranger travel so most modern gear and techniques are not allowed.
The goal of this course is to allow the student to flow through the landscape as the traitional rangers did, as a ghost of the desert.
Successful negotiation of this course will enable the student to epitomize the motto of Mobius Black School of Scoutcraft: GO FAST GO FAR
