Description

Press release from the City of Des Moines: February 4, 2021 DES MOINES, IOWA – Thursday, February 4, 2021 – The City of Des Moines Public Works Department is working on clearing the 750+ miles of City Snow Routes as a blizzard hits Des Moines. Despite the wind whipping snow across the City with gusts up to 36 miles an hour, snow is not expected to accumulate over two inches, the threshold for plowing Des Moines neighborhood streets. If the forecast holds true, Public Works crews will plow and salt snow routes while it's snowing and complete one more pass of the snow routes once the snow is forecast to stop falling around noon to 1 p.m. "This is the first storm like this we've had all season," Public Works Director Jonathan Gano said. "All of the other snowstorms have easily cleared the two-inch mark which means this may be the first snowstorm where we don't clear neighborhood streets.
