Morrison Road Grass Fire Was 'Human Caused:' Officials

LAKEWOOD, CO — Evacuations were lifted Sunday evening in Jefferson County after a grass fire burned near Bear Creek Lake Park and Fox Hollow Golf Course. As of Sunday night, crews were still putting out some hotspots, fire officials said. The fire appears to be "human caused," however it's not known whether it was accidental or intentional, West Metro Fire Rescue said. High winds and warmer weather helped the fire to spread quickly to the east, and Morrison Road was shut down in both directions in the area. The evacuation zone was from Morrison Road to Hampden Avenue and C470 to Kipling Parkway, officials said. Just after 3 p.m., West Metro Fire Rescue announced that the neighborhood east of the fire — from Owens Lane to Kipling — was being evacuated. Many evacuees met at Bear Creek High School, officials said. All evacuations have since been lifted. No buildings were threatened by the fire, officials said. The Fox Hollow Golf Course sustained significant damage, according to several reports. An investigation was underway. Anyone with information is asked to call West Metro Fire Rescue at 303-539-9531.
