JOHNSTON, RI — Local police are still hunting for a cow that escaped a local slaughterhouse this week. Johnston Police on Saturday said officers are still looking for the 1,600-pound animal — and they warned residents not to approach it if seen. "We are advising the public that the cow is a wild animal and like all wild animals, unpredictable especially when confronted with human contact," the police said in a Facebook post. "Please maintain your distance, report all sightings and leave the capture to trained professionals." The cow got loose while it was being transferred to the Rhode Island Beef & Veal slaughterhouse in Johnston. It was spotted later in Providence, but authorities didn't immediately have the ability to capture and transport the animal, according to the Associated Press. If seen, contact either the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management at (401) 222-4700 or Johnston police at (401) 231-4210.
