PROVIDENCE, RI —The coronavirus test site at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence is closing Friday, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced. The arena will become one of several planned state-run vaccination sites. The Dunk was a rapid test site for asymptomatic Rhode Islanders. After it closes Friday, there will still be several test sites in Providence, including the West River Street Stop & Shop, the Roger Williams Park Zoo and the Convention Center. A spokesperson for the department said the mass vaccination site is not opening for several weeks. This is in line with the vaccination strategy Director Nicole Alexander-Scott outline Thursday. Five to 10 sites are being coordinated across the state, but will not open until a larger supply of vaccine doses becomes available from the federal government, she said. Until then, the department is focusing on pharmacies and local, community-level distribution. A full list of state-run test sites is available on the department's website.
