While enjoying the evening, you can help Hope's Front Door donate to their client transportation services! In the midst of COVID-19, transportation is a lifeline for clients who have lost their jobs due to COVID and are searching for new positions, or, who need to get to medical appointments, or, who just need to get to work to maintain their current employment! The money raised from the Virtual Mardi Gras Fundraiser will serve as a lifeline to community members. Donations will assist the organization with assisting more households with transportation to critical doctors' appointments, employment interviews, etc. Hope's Front Door hopes to raise $10,000 between now and February 28th to assists 1400 adults and children. Contributions from now until February 28th will be matched up to $5000.00 Hope's Front Door serve those experiencing homelessness, as well as those seeking assistance in the communities of: DarienDowners GroveLisleWestmontWillowbrookWoodridgeDuPage County residents living outside of those towns are able to receive service with a referral from a partner organization. Access to transportation is intrinsically linked with HFD's clients' ability to improve their quality of life. HFD is one of the only organizations that offer this crucial assistance. Clients use transportation vouchers (fuel, bus and train) to look for work and medical appointments. Parents use the transportation vouchers when their children are experiencing physical ailments and are in therapy for emotional and mental illness. These are often additional expenses that parents with low/no income can barely afford. For example, Hope's Front Door has parents who delay therapy and doctors' appointments because they don't have money for transportation. One single mother was desperate to bring her teenage daughter to an emergency appointment at Loyola Hospital after it became apparent, she had an infection and pain management issues after back surgery. She did not have money for gas to get her from Westmont to Maywood but was able to receive a voucher from HFD to help her daughter. Transportation vouchers are also used to help homeless families' access services, job seekers find employment and workers maintain their jobs. Getting to and from job training or the job itself should not be an insurmountable barrier that keeps a person from staying employed. If you can't get there you cannot do the job. You do not need an account to participate in the virtual event as they entice you with tastes and libations reminiscent of New Orleans shared by local chefs and mixologists. There will be lots of opportunities for fun, games, prizes and giving! The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Martin T. Tully, a founding partner of Actuate Law and former Mayor of Downers Grove. The following represents the events of the evening: Cadence Kitchen & Co. will be offering Cooking & Mixology Lessons. Located in the heart of Downers Grove, they offer a wonderful Midwest-inspired menu now available for dine in style. The Foxtail will also offer Cooking & Mixology Lessons. Located on Main Street, they now offer a pick-up or dine in experience offering an exquisite dinner and craft cocktails. Orange and Brew Bottle Shop & Tap Room will be providing a Craft Beer Lesson. They have an excellent craft beer bottle shop and tap room in Downers Grove serving local and regional craft beers. Pierce Tavern will also offer a Mixology Lesson. The tavern pays homage to the founder Pierce Downer and offers the best in burgers, bourbon, beer and more. Chef Matt Doemland will create a Cooking Lesson of mouth watering Cajun influenced appetizers TRIVIA ANYONE? Win a prize! How much do you know about Mardi Gras?
