For the upcoming 2021 season. Work may begin April 1st or before. Summary Performs all irrigation systems maintenance and repairs. Maintains inventory of irrigation supplies. Programs, monitors, and adjusts centralized and satellite irrigation controllers. You will be assigned an area/zone to work in. It will be your responsibility to maintain and grow your zone. The larger your area grows the higher your position becomes and the more you earn. When your area grows, you will help in more of the administrative orders and decisions such as hiring and dismissing employees, advertising, budgeting, etc. that help your area be successful. You and you alone will determine how far you go and how much you earn. Compensation and Hours $18.00 - $25.00 per hour. Plus over-time, tips, performance bonuses, PTO April, May & October overtime is mandatory, June, July, August, September are about normal 40 hour work weeks. Winter months you may apply for unemployment benefits. There may be work earlier than April and later than October that will be required to be performed; (I was still working consistent well into December 2020). Duties and Responsibilities 1. Programs, monitors, and adjusts computerized central and satellite control system with sprinklers located over a wide area. 2. Oversees the work of employees in supporting roles, including assigning workload and monitoring employee performance. 3. Orders and maintains inventory of irrigation equipment and supplies. 4. Maintains records on irrigation systems and other items as assigned. 5. Installs, troubleshoots and repairs sprinkler irrigation system components including but not limited to: valves, piping, sprinkler heads, other emitting devices, controller wiring, back flow prevention devices and controllers. 6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. 7. Performs annual inspections of back flow presenters and documents results. 8. Performs snow removal, as required. 9. May assist in various landscape maintenance activities as required. 10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 11. Perform, clean, accurate, honest, fair estimates, service and repairs. Minimum Job Requirements • High school diploma or GED preferred; at least (MIN.) 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required • Ability to install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair manual and controller-operated irrigation systems. • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. • Records maintenance skills. • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures. • Ability to lead and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. • Knowledge of centralized and satellite irrigation systems. • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Pumps/wells, back flow testing, etc. are not mandatory for all, but will be for others, however required to learn/obtain, to advance in the company. *** Understanding Basic Irrigation Principles • Sprinkler type, nozzle type and spacing o Evaluate coverage are to determine sprinkler type and spacing o Assess spacing relative to sprinkler type and coverage area o Assess existing nozzle selection o Perform maintenance and adjustments o Match head and nozzle being replaced o Understand relative precipitation rates • Swing joint assemblies o Identify assembly components o Determine appropriate swing joint type o Determine appropriate swing joint installation • Pipe fittings and connection procedures o Select proper solvents for pipe type and primers o Identify type of pipe fitting o Determine connection procedures based on pipe and fitting type o Perform connection procedures based on pipe and fitting type • Equipment and tool usage o Follow manufacturer’s instructions o Select appropriate equipment and/or tools for the task o Maintain equipment and tools • Pumps o Identify pump types, components and controls o Understand pump flow and pressure o Demonstrate understanding of pump safety • Back flow functionality o Identify back flow type, function and components o Identify state and local requirements • Plans and as-built documentation o Read scale and legend o Understand specifications • Water meter usage o Identify appropriate meter o Understand meter readings o Identify leak detector on meter • Job safety o Identify and use appropriate safety equipment o Locate utilities o Follow exaction safety procedures o Follow confined space entry procedures o Follow MSDS guidelines if applicable • Startup and winterization procedures • Identify leaks • Identify all water supplies • Demonstrate understanding of basic soil-plant-water relationships Understanding Electrical Principles • Voltmeter operation o Test amperage or watts o Test for voltage, resistance, and continuity o Understand voltmeter readings • Controller electrical operation o Demonstrate understanding of basic controller programming o Identify components o Perform diagnostics procedures o Perform controller functions o Perform reset procedures o Perform basic controller ad component replacement • Transformer operation o Test incoming and outing voltage o Match transformer properties for replacement • Solenoid operation o Test resistance and incoming voltage o Identify manufacturer o Identify manufacturer specifications • Wiring types o Determine wire size and type o Determine appropriate burial depth • Field wiring/wire tracking/valve locating o Select appropriate equipment o Perform equipment setup and operational procedures o Perform splicing procedures Understanding Hydraulic Principles • Sensors o Demonstrate understanding of how sensors operate o Identify sensors used o Perform sensor maintenance and replacement o Follow manufacturer’s operating procedures • Valves o Demonstrate understanding of how valves operate o Identify valves o Perform valve installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair o Install appropriate valve enclosure • Pressure testing o Determine dynamic vs. static pressure o Understand pressure gauge readings o Understand manufacturer’s pressure requirements • Flow testing o Record flow meter readings o Understand manufacturer’s flow requirements • Drip mechanics o Determine maximum tubing length o Identify filtration and pressure regulation requirements o Identify emission devices o Perform maintenance procedures o Determine appropriate component usage • Read friction loss charts Distinguishing Characteristics Position requires: a) Programming, monitoring and adjusting central and satellite sprinkler control systems; b) Leading/guiding the work of lower level employees including assigning work and monitoring the completion of work assignment; c) ordering and maintaining inventory and records of equipment and supplies; d) Keep all company equipment and space clean, organized and debris free and in good maintenance/repair at all times. Conditions of Employment • A valid driver's license will be required if a motor vehicle must be operated on the job. • Must obtain education & license's/certificates as needed to further your status and abilities. • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Provide your own tools and cell phone (Pref. lg screen) or tablet with the ability to work with company software; schedule, billing, payroll. Masks are required, gloves and shoe covering may be required, for now they are optional. Working Conditions and Physical Effort • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. • Extensive physical activity.
