PORT WASHINGTON, NY —Two Paul D. Schreiber High School seniors are candidates for one of the highest education honors in the country for high school students — the United States Presidential Scholars Program, Port Washington School District officials said. Samantha Radinsky and Hope Lane were selected out of nearly 3.6 million students, who are graduating this year, by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars on the basis of "superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities," the district stated in a press release. The program, which was established in 1964 by executive order of President Johnson, recognizes and honors some of the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors, officials said. Schreiber high school principal Dr. Ira Pernick said that he couldn't be prouder of Radinsky and Lane for their "outstanding accomplishment." "They have both been wonderful members of our school community and have made a positive impact on all. They are truly deserving of such prestigious recognition," he said.
