MASSAPEQUA, NY — Massapequa High School celebrated 14 student-athletes who will go on to college athletic careers at a signing ceremony on Feb. 3. Parents and siblings were invited to witness the milestone moment, in which students committed to colleges on Long Island, upstate and as far away as Ohio.
Principal Barbara Lowell noted the importance of the term "student-athlete," explaining that colleges look for players who have excelled both in athletics and academics. She said that selecting the right college is a long but rewarding process, and she looks back on her own days as a college athlete with nothing but fondness.
Six players from the boys lacrosse team made their college commitments, including Jacob Coleman for SUNY Geneseo, Kyle Cuccio for Western Connecticut State University, Ryan Durnin for Adelphi University, Timothy Morrow for Pace University, Jack Nichtern for the U.S. Naval Academy and Anthony Parisi for Hartwick College.
From the girls swimming team, Adriana Kamor will head to Case Western Reserve University and Kiana Morisi is going to the University of Pennsylvania. Dominic Felicetti will play baseball for SUNY Old Westbury and his teammate Matthew Minio will hit the diamond for Pace University.
Alyson Anderson will play field hockey at Molloy College, Kristen Birney will join the lacrosse team at Adelphi University, Chase Liardi will wrestle at The Ohio State University and Madison Racioppi will play volleyball for Molloy College.
