FRAMINGHAM, MA — The deadline to apply to fill District 2 Framingham School Committee member Karen Foran Dempsey's seat closed on Friday, and five people have applied for the vacancy. With the applications in, the School Committee will hold interviews on Feb. 17 and possibly on Feb. 24. Then the final candidate will be selected at a joint meeting with the City Council, most likely on March 2 — just in time for the new member to help work on the next school year budget. Dempsey died unexpectedly on Dec. 24, and the city began accepting applications from District 2 residents for the vacancy in January. The five people who applied are: David DiGuardia, a systems analyst at Emmanuel College in Boston; Richard Finlay, a Framingham Youth Football coach who served on the School Committee until 2019, when he ran for Framingham City Council; Kelly Garofalo, a parent and Simmons College graduate; David Gordon; and Brandon Ward, who works at Harvard's Center for Public Leadership.
