We are hiring Full Time Farm Hand at Tara Firma Farms Seeking full time help for regenerative husbandry and vegetable farm with a farm store and CSA. This position will support row crops, compost, and livestock operations. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who is responsible, hard working and self-motivated. Love for the animals and care for the land’s well-being are essential! The position requires attention to detail with the many tasks involved in helping to run the farm that change with the seasons. On farm housing available with employment. 460 square foot studio apartment - rent is $1200 after a $300 employee subsidy. Utilities/WIFI/Garbage included, Email for pictures and more details. Responsibilities are varied and will include: General animal husbandry including: care for poultry, pigs, cows. Feeding, watering, egg collecting, and moving livestock and chicken houses Sunrise or sunset hours. Position will include opening and/or closing farm animals; hours change with time of sunrise and sunset. Light construction Working with electric fences, building enclosures, and repairing fencing Loading and unloading of farm vehicles Loading animals into trailers Processing poultry on farm Operating farm equipment including tractors Property maintenance: clearing brush, mowing ect… Basic Irrigation maintenance and installation Harvesting crops, planting, compost spreading and other row crop responsibilities Position may sometimes include driving to pick up inputs for compost operation. Help with regular public events, sometimes long hours, but fun! A Typical day can include, but is not limited to: hiking long distances up steep hills in the rain or hot sun, moving trailers and chicken houses with the tractor on tricky terrain, feeding animals with the tractor, sorting gleen (food scraps for the animals), processing animals as well as castration of pigs. Applicant must: Have a valid California driver’s license and be able to drive a stick shift Be able to drive a tractor (beginners ok) Be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. This is a physical job and you need a strong back! Work weekends and some holidays Have some animal care experience. Bonus for experience with Pigs. Be aware and gentle with animals Work independently and collaboratively See tasks to completion Good communication skills Be able to multitask Handle stressful situations in a peaceful and compassionate way. Proficient in English Not mind getting dirty! Be comfortable working outdoors in extreme weather conditions Pay $16 - $18 an hour DOE, plus $300 housing discount for an on farm apartment.
