From the Indiana University Northwest: February 4, 2021 Event series features captivating speakers, including the relatives of George Floyd, experts on social movements, and international talent Indiana University Northwest's Department of Minority Studies, and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (ODEMA), invite the campus community and general public to a series of virtual Black History Month events highlighting multiple facets of African American culture. February 9: Black Lives and the Legacy of George Floyd: A Conversation 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 9 Via Zoom Special guest Nyle Fort, from Princeton's Department of Religious Studies, will lead a powerful, valuable, and unforgettable discussion with relatives of George Floyd, who was killed by police officers last year in Minneapolis. This exclusive and intimate conversation will explore the shock waves after Floyd's death, the Movement for Black Lives, the crisis of policing in America, the meaning of justice, and more. Speakers: Nyle Fort, activist, minister and scholar Angela Harrelson, veteran, registered nurse, and aunt of George Floyd Selwyn Miles Jones, community leader and uncle of George Floyd Advance registration is required; visit go.iu.edu/3yfd February 19: Zuzu Acrobats Live! 11 a.m., Friday, February 19Via Zoom This high-flying tumbling act from Mombasa, Kenya, which appeared on "America's Got Talent," is famous for its high-energy "circus" acrobatics set to African music. Viewers can expect to see fast pyramid building, limbo, contortion, bottle balancing, tumbling, chair stacks, comedy and more. Advance registration is required; visit go.iu.edu/3yfg February 25: Putting the Civil Back into the Civil Rights Fight: Part 2 1 p.m., Thursday, February 25Via Zoom Join us for the second part of a three-part series on how put civility back into the civil rights discussion. Ron Jones, founder of Dialogues on Diversity, will share 11 rules for more productive dialogues across differences.
