Ash Wednesday Drive-In Mass PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU REGISTER:February 5, 2021My Dear Parishioners,God’s peace be with you!On February 17, 2021 we will be observing the opening of the Lenten Season for the year 2021 with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. In this extraordinary times, Bishop Cantú encourages us to continue in our journey together in hope in celebrating this significant time in our Liturgical Year in experiencing God’s abundant mercy and love for us even in the midst of the social turmoil, political struggles, and the pandemic that we are experiencing. It is important to remember that as we observe this humbling moment in our faith journey that we continue to be mindful in caring for each other through safe practices especially in regard to the pandemic. This year, in agreement and collaboration with Pope Francis and all the Bishops in the United States, we will be administering the blessed Ashes differently by coming back to the ancient practice of distributing Ashes on the head. I would like to quote below the notes that came from the Vatican: “NOTE ON ASH WEDNESDAY Distribution of Ashes in Time of Pandemic The Priest says the prayer for blessing the ashes. He sprinkles the ashes with holy water, without saying anything. Then he addresses all those present and only once says the formula as it appears in the Roman Missal, applying it to all in general: “Repent, and believe in the Gospel”, or“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”.The Priest then cleanses his hands, puts on a face mask and distributes the ashes to those who come to him or, if appropriate, he goes to those who are standing in their places. The Priest takes the ashes and sprinkles them on the head of each one without saying anything. From the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, 12 January Robert Card. Sarah Prefect +Arthur Roche Archbishop Secretary”Generally, the instruction on the distribution of ashes mentions that the ashes be placed on the head. Other countries practices the sprinkling of the ashes on the head but is not well known here in our country because we our usual way is to smear the ashes on the forehead. But for pastoral reasons the sprinkling of ashes on the head would be adequate during the pandemic.Important notes:• Please note that all Drive-In Masses will require registration on our website as usual. • You have the choice to receive or not receive the ashes during that day.• Please do a self-assessment if it is safe for you to join the Liturgies in-person. • Observance of Social Distancing, wearing face mask, and hand sanitizing will still be observed as mandated by the County.Thank you very much for your utmost patience and understanding on this matter. Let us continue to pray for one another!God bless you all and be safe!In the hearts of Jesus and Mary,Fr. Angelo DavidPastor
