By Editor, Times of San Diego February 4, 2021 Artists in Encinitas have dedicated their work to a good cause – publicly thanking medical professionals and other essential workers for their efforts during the pandemic. In partnership with the City of Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, Encinitas Friends of the Arts has posted a set of banners, commissioned from local artists, at the Encinitas Library, on Cornish Drive, and prominent locations along Encinitas Boulevard and Via Cantebria. The organization embarked on the project to "thank frontline workers who have courageously worked to keep the community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic." Artists Patricia Frischer, Kirsten Francis, Sean Hnedak, Deanne Sabeck and Naimeh Woodward created the banners. A city commission established the group, a community based nonprofit arts and culture organization in March 2014. The organization partners with the city to enrich arts and culture in the community through education, events and fundraising. "This is a small but important gesture and one way the arts can step forward to serve our community," said Woodward, president of Encinitas Friends of the Arts. "As we face difficult and uncertain times together, the generosity of our community inspires us to move forward with hope, optimism and resolve." A page has been created for the project on the Friends of the Arts site. The community also is invited to submit messages of gratitude and support to [email protected], or use the QR code located on each banner to seek additional information.
