Description

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Shaker Heights Schools teachers and staff will receive the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Feb. 16. "This is an important step toward our efforts to maintain onsite learning and the overall health of our community. Please continue to wear a mask, wash your hands and maintain physical distancing to do your part to stop the spread of COVID-19," Superintendent David Glasner said in a message to the community. Gov. Mike DeWine struck a bargain with Ohio schools at the beginning of the year — agree to reopen by March 1 and teachers and staff can receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Nearly every school district in Ohio agreed to the deal, including Shaker Heights. Due to a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines, the state won't be able to complete the vaccination process for most teachers by March 1. All faculty should receive at least the first dose of the vaccine before reopening. Shaker Heights teachers and faculty will receive their second shot of the vaccine on March 9. "The District will share any possible changes to the learning schedule for March 9 as soon as it becomes available," Glasner said. The Educational Service Center (ESC) of Northeast Ohio has been designated to direct the vaccine distribution process for public schools, including Shaker Heights.
