Heights High Student Tests Positive For Coronavirus

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — A Heights High student tested positive for COVID-19 this week. The student had not been in the high school building but was on campus on Monday and rode on a school bus to an athletic event, the district said. Staff disinfected the bus on Wednesday. "We are working closely with the Cuyahoga County Health Department and anyone identified as a close contact will be notified by the health department as a part of COVID-19 investigation," the district said in a statement. District officials asked anyone contacted by health officials to cooperate with the tracing program. The Heights Schools are set to reopen March 1, per an agreement with the state. School districts that at least partially reopen in March will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for staff. The Cleveland Heights Teachers Union has protested the reopening, saying it's not yet safe for teachers to return. They've asked the district to delay a return to in-person education until the vaccine is more readily available. Since Jan. 27, there have been three confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Heights staffers and one case among students.
