PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under the direction of the superintendent, the horticulturalist is expected to maintain the golf course gardens and landscaping around the club grounds as well as on the golf course to the highest of standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Establish and enforce personal operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personal safety. - Keep growing and blooming all decorative plants and flowers in flower beds, container, hanging baskets and other containers, maintaining them as alive with frequent (as needed) watering and fertilizing. - Schedule work for yourself and assistance needed depending on priorities and weather, crew and equipment availability. - Care for all existing ornamental plantings around the golf course and clubhouse structures. - Perform duties related to the golf course in accordance to direction by the golf course superintendent and/or golf course assistant superintendent. - Ensure the irrigation system for garden areas is working efficiently and that any irrigation issues are brought to the attention of the superintendent or assistant superintendent. - Ensure that the club grounds are clean of plant debris, garbage and any other unnecessary materials. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: - High school diploma or equivalent - A minimum of 1 year experience in greenhouse, horticulture, landscape management or a related field. - Knowledge of tool, equipment, methods and practices involved in horticultural trades. - Knowledge of annual and perennial plants, names, hardiness and growing. - Knowledge of flower and plant design. - Must have a valid driver’s license. - Ability to provide courteous service to the members and general public. - Perform other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Must be able to frequently sit, stand, bend, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk. - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and to lift overhead and push/pull, move lighter objects. - The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
