Position Summary: The Bulk Service Technician will commission, install, and repair cryogenic bulk tanks, mirco-bulk tanks, cryogenic dewer cylinders, and vaporizers at customer and Airgas sites to ensure the safe, effective and efficient delivery of our products to the customers’ point of use. The Technician will be responsible for performing regularly scheduled preventative maintenance checks on cryogenic pressure vessels, production/plant equipment and maintain inventory of parts and supplies. Set and maintain alarms for automatic emergency reserve systems and install and maintain cryogenic pumps and drives. In this position the Technician will also be required to repair and maintain liquid dewer cylinders, compressors, and recharge pumps. Effective Job Functions: Comply with all Company and industry safety policies and procedures. Commission, install, and maintain all cryogenic pressure vessels, gases include: oxygen, nitrogen, argon, helium, and carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Do sight surveys at prospective customer locations to determine scope of job. Service, inspect, use, and maintain compressors, pumps and other shop tools/equipment in good working condition and accordance with manufacturers recommended procedures. General familiarity with Hawaii regulations governing licensing requirements for electrical and plumbing work. Identify and communicate service problems to manager for timely repair response. Maintain inventory of parts required to perform servicing, inspection and maintenance of all equipment associated with the basic function of this position. Handle hazardous materials daily in a safe and approved manner. Install regulator systems (excluding any electrical and plumbing installation prohibited by applicable Hawaii regulations) for specialized applications. Inspect automatic emergency reserve and back up system of gases. Install (excluding any plumbing installation prohibited by Hawaii regulations), inspect and maintain systems for filling high pressure gas cylinders. Secure the necessary documentation and approvals of work performed (installations and/or removals) Assist service tech team on bulk tank installation. Submit completed service orders, estimates and invoices to manager in timely manner to facilitate customer billing. Demonstrate proficient skills; upgrades knowledge and skills on an on-going basis. Maintain excellent customer service. General office/facility housekeeping/tool and equipment maintenance. Flexible work schedule with ability to travel overnight. Must attend company safety meetings. Ensure proper and full time use of PPE. Ensure any accident or injury is reported promptly to manager. Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace. Qualifications: College or technical degree preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of diagnostic and/or repair experience in some or all of the following is required: cryogenics, brazing, programmable controls, and process instrumentation. Holds the following current certifications: ASME Brazer, ASSE 6040 Systems Maintenance, ASSE 6005 Med Gas Sys Specialist, ASSE 6010 Installer Prior experience working with bulk gas delivery systems, pumps, or mechanical machinery. Experience in the HVAC industry with hands on welding/brazing skills a plus. Able to understand piping and tank detail from manuals and mechanical drawings. Knowledge of applicable standards for good manufacturing practice set forth by the CGA, NFPA, CMA and other professional/regulatory bodies. Ability to use hand tools (electrical and manual) in a safe manner. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures or governmental regulations (MSDS). Must have strong math skills; ability to calculate figures and units of measure. Skills to prioritize integrated service activities to maximize time spent working on equipment at customer locations. Must be customer service oriented and able to interact with both internal and external customers in a professional manner. Must have a valid Hawaii driver’s license and clean DMV report. Must be able to work flexible hours to meet customers’ needs and managements’ expectations. Must be willing to be away from home for up to 3-5 days at a time for installs and certification schools. Must be able to work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines. Must be able to work in tight, confined dark spaces. Must be able to work indoor/outdoors in temperatures up to 110 degrees. Takes initiative to problem solve and troubleshoot with results. Must be able to operate a forklift and scissor lift, and be able to maintain appropriate certifications. Ability to routinely lift 25-50 lbs and occasionally lift 51-80 lbs with material handling equipment. Ability to work safely under pressure to meet deadlines. Team player attitude with ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
