We are a medium sized design-build firm with a mission to make New York City a greener place. We are looking for someone who would like to grow with us. The perfect candidate will be friendly, organized and fascinated by the plant world. Garden knowledge, creativity and special talents are a huge plus! We are looking for someone to help supervise maintenance for a variety of gardens here in New York City. The right person will have some background in horticulture or a strong personal interest in plants and gardening. You will work directly with the landscape designer to create the desired garden results. You will spend ~70% of your time in the field visiting gardens and working directly with the gardeners to make sure the garden tasks are done properly. The other ~30% will be spent in the office to meet with the designer, record your daily notes, and assist with prepping for the next days work. The right person will have excellent communication skills and possess a willingness to learn, participate and grow into the role. Responsibilities: • Oversee daily garden maintenance practices and all planting installations. • Help to identify problems in the gardens that should be addressed. • Correspond regularly with the landscape designer. • Keep track of the weekly schedule, upcoming appointments and suggest extra work that can be done. • Keep track of garden material inventory • Record thorough notes and relay the information clearly. Skills: • Garden tool identification • Knowledge of plant, health, and habit • Pest identification & treatments • Vine training • Various pruning techniques Requirements: • 1+ years experience in garden maintenance- green roof, rooftop, urban environments is a plus • Highschool diploma or GED • Able to lift 50 pounds or more • Good time management skills • Availability for long seasonal hours • Ability to take direction, prioritize and multi-task • Energetic, motivated and hardworking with attention to detail • Punctual, dependable, and willing to work in all weather Start date= immediately Rate commensurate with experience Job type: full time Full time/ seasonal position with room to grow
