WATERTOWN, MA — Watertown meters are rising, but not the fares. The height of the physical parking meter is taller and some residents are not happy. The town installed new meters last month throughout municipal lots and on-street metered parking spaces. The new meters accept credit cards and the town hoped they would be used for app payments as well. The problem some residents found was, they couldn't see high enough to view what the meter read. Watertown resident Kat Powers published a Facebook post criticizing the meter height. Powers said she is 5 foot 2 inches tall, and she can't read the meters. Her post includes a photo of her standing next to the meter, which is a few inches taller than her. The town has plans to shorten the meters. Assistant Town Manager Steve Magoon told WBZ News that the town would lower all meters to 48 inches over the next few months. Watertown needs a new system of government so there is one person watching who we can vote out if the job isn't done....Posted by Kat Powers on Saturday, January 30, 2021
