Message Referencing Weapon Reported On Wall At Greenwich High: PD

GREENWICH, CT — Officers were called to Greenwich High School after a student reported seeing a message on a wall referencing a weapon, however students and staff at the school were in no danger at any time, according to police. In a statement, Capt. Mark Zuccerella said officers went to the school after a student spotted the message on a wall at the school. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.) "The message concerned the student since it made reference to a weapon," Zuccerella said in a statement. "The student immediately contacted a teacher, and [officers] were called to respond to the school to investigate." The school's administrators and resource officer "rapidly assessed" the situation and identified the student responsible for the message before all officers arrived, Zuccerella said. He also noted the building was not placed on lockdown at any time. "The marked patrol units that responded to Greenwich High School was done out of an abundance of caution," Zucceella said. "At no time were other students or staff in any danger." The department thanked the student who spotted the message for quickly reporting it to the school's staff. "The Greenwich Police Department and Greenwich Public Schools have an established relationship based on trust and teamwork," Zuccerella said. "The relationship that exists played a big part in this incident being resolved quickly and safely. The safety and security of the students in the town of Greenwich always will be our greatest priority." The incident is being investigated by the department's Special Victim Section, Zuccerella said.
