Upcycle and embellish a denim jacket (provided) while learning about sustainability and how to deconstruct and reconstruct old clothing Are you ready to breathe new life into a treasured garment? Do you want to transform thrifted apparel into sophisticated sartorial finds? During this class Rightfully Sewn will provide you with your own denim jacket to upcycle and embellish! Students will learn about sustainability and how to deconstruct and reconstruct old or thrifted clothing. Ten to twelve months of sewing experience required. Only 5 places! Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers. Students will: Learn how to piece apart and alter a garment,Receive tips on how to design with thrifted or re-purposed garments and fabric,Learn different methods of patching and mending for function and embellishment, Practice hand sewing and machine sewing techniques for embellishment, andLeave with a one-of-a-kind sustainable jacket.Bring two to four garments, which you will use to reimagine your recycled jacket at this hands-on workshop. A shopping list will be provided. This class will be taught by Rightfully Sewn Instructor Nina Littrell. She is a graduate of Kansas City Art Institute, where she studied textiles and garment construction. Nina is a Kansas City-based fashion designer who is interested in merging art and fashion.
