Supervising Trauma Treatment: Promoting Knowledge & Growth
Supervising Trauma Treatment: Promoting Knowledge & Growth
With the incidence of trauma as underlying or presenting concerns within much of clinical practice today, effective and ethical counseling requires counselors to have training, experience, and practice in treating trauma. Supervised practice provides an important context for growth in knowledge and practice for counselors in training, however, the supervisors’ primary concern should be for the welfare of the client. This balance of supervising the development of skills and knowledge while ensuring effective and ethical treatment for clients is always present for supervisors. This training will explore current understandings and treatment of trauma in counseling and provide an opportunity for supervisors to evaluate how supervision of trauma treatment might introduce unique supervision needs with strategies for addressing those needs within the supervision relationship.
