WEST ISLIP, NY — Less than a month after West Islip residents voted against the sale of Masera property to a developer planning a luxury senior complex, the board of education will be once again discussing the issue during a meeting Thursday night.
According to the agenda for the meeting, there will be a discussion on the disposition of the property located on west side of Udall Road north of Sunrise Highway. The meeting will take place virtually from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Jan. 19, the school board held a vote to approve the sale. Residents cast their votes: 796 for yes and 2,667 for no.
Following the results of the vote, school officials said that they were "disappointed" but planned to convene in the future to discuss its next steps for what to do with the property.
The 11-acre site originally opened in 1955 as Paumanok Elementary School and has remained closed in recent years.
According to the district, officials have been exploring several options for the site, but "due to the age and condition of the school," the school board thought the best proposal was from the Long Island-based developer, Terwilliger & Bartone Properties, for a senior apartment complex.
