Overall Responsibilities: Clean and maintain the landscape for each property on the designated route while monitoring and assigning tasks to crew members. Key tasks and responsibilities: • Wear appropriate work boots and uniform as per company policy • Properly use safety equipment (boots, goggles, earplugs, gloves) • Comply with company safety guidelines and standards • Report to work at the assigned time and location • Use tools and equipment in a proper and safe manner • Clean debris from walkways, planters, patios, gutters and landscaping at job • Maintain lawn including; weed eating, spraying and pulling weeds, mowing, apply seed and cover, apply fertilizer, and edging • Maintain plant health by monitoring, maintaining and treating bug infestations, moisture and drainage • Prune fruit trees, citrus plants and perennial flowering shrubs (evergreen and deciduous) • Maintain planter beds; digging, spraying and pulling weeds, prune shrubs and vines, and cultivate soil • Maintain trees and hedges; prune and cut low hanging tree branches, stake trees and trim hedges • Check and maintain moisture levels for lawns, planters and potted plants. • Check sprinklers, replace sprinkler heads, adjust timers and report problems • Report all expenses on a daily basis • Complete field tickets, route sheets and problems report in a timely fashion • Report all communication from homeowners and board members • Report unsafe conditions and behavior • Report all accidents, damaged property, and faulty equipment • Report regarding progress of tasks • Clean and maintain tools and equipment • Assist loading and unloading work trucks and trailers • Comply with all company policies and procedures • Follow all laws and regulation set by the government Skills & Attributes: • Efficient worker with strong sense of ethics • Train and delegate work to others • Ability to apply fertilizers and chemicals according to MSDS sheets and company policy. • Understand basic irrigation principals and demonstrate ability to affect all routine irrigation repairs. • Understand and complete the following basic irrigation repairs: sprinkler head replacement, sprinkler head arc and radius adjustment, lateral line repairs • Demonstrate ability to recognize irrigation deficiencies • Able to understand and use a root feeder fertilizer applicator • Proficient in the use of basic maintenance hand tools: leaf rake, file, pick, broom, hoe, shovel, cultivator, water hose, quick coupler key, hand pruners, hedge shears and refuse totes, backpack sprayer, stake pounders, ladders, pole pruner, and spreaders • Proficient in the use of power equipment: wheel grinder, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, lawn mower, leaf blower, weed eater, edger, backpack sprayer, chain saw • Ability to sharpen and clean cutting tools • Able to prune trees, shrubs and vine to encourage healthy growth • Able to properly stake and tie trees and shrubs • Able to properly guy wire trees • Able to properly attach vines and espaliers to support trellises using appropriate materials • Able to identify by common names 25 frequently used plants that appear on the plant list (Bedding flowers, ground cover, shrubs, perennials, trees and turf) • Able to identify, by common names, 5 frequently seen weeds in planting beds (Spotted Surge, Wild Morning Glory, Groundsel, Flare, Crab Grass, Devil Grass) • Able to identify, by common name, 5 frequently seen garden pests (aphid, snail, slug, whitefly, mealy bug, gopher, mole, rabbit) • Identify general needs of plants (water, light, carbon dioxide, fertilizer) • Recognize plant material in stress or in a problem state • Perform duties as instructed • Enjoy working outdoors • Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks • Able to work as a team member • Excellent communication skills • Possess willingness to learn new skills • Able to meet company production rates and standards • Calibrate fertilizer application equipment • Able to identify all components of irrigation systems • Demonstrate ability to program irrigation controllers/timers • Use pesticide application equipment demonstrating the proper application techniques • Identify the proper procedure for transporting and storing pesticides • Demonstrate knowledge of the basic elements of fertilizers • Participation in training program for basic pest control procedures • Understands square footage and can figure out the amount of materials to apply • Can install timers and transformers • Aerator operation and maintenance • Vertical Mower operation and maintenance • Hand grading operation • Seeding operation, Erosion Matting and Seed blanket • Experience Requirements: • Requires up to 4 year of previous gardening experience. • Requires up to 2 years of previous experience with this company • Demonstrate ability to train and delegate work to others • Prefer completed high school or equivalent • Must be able to speak, read and write in English • Able to communicate in Spanish, preferably bi-lingual English/Spanish • No computer skills required • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body • Be able to reach overhead • Be able to work in various positions including, but not limited to, stopping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time • Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks • Be able to lift 50 lbs. of weight frequently throughout assigned work day • Be able to bend and stoop repeatedly throughout assigned workday to complete assigned jobs tasks • Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks • Reliable transportation to job site/office
