Position Type: Full Time Custodian and Maintenance Technician Date Posted: 2/4/2021 Applicant Deadline: Open until further notice Rate of Pay: $17.68 - 18.18 an hour, per PVS Classified Wage Schedule Hours: 40 hours a week during the academic year, part time summer hours July, non-exempt Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision for employee. PTO, 10 paid holidays, PERS retirement eligible Reports to Head Secretary and Executive Director POSITION SUMMARY: The Custodian maintains an attractive, sanitary and Covid-19 safe facility by performing a wide variety of cleaning and maintenance functions in both the facility buildings and grounds around the facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure. The Custodian may be on call for emergencies, and may have occasional weekend and evening shifts as required to respond to school events and activities. Summer hours may be reduced, vacation is typically in July. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, Experience, Licensure and Certification • Some janitorial experience required in a work setting • Custodial experience in a school or institutional setting preferred • Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required • Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability • Fieldprint Fingerprint Clearance is a requirement for hiring • Bilingual preferred Knowledge of and Skill in: • Methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies • Adhering to safe work practices • Using cleaning agents, supplies, and equipment • Operating computer programs and applications (e.g. email, system applications, word processing, etc.) • Communicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing • Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions • Performing basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents • Working from heights of up to 30 feet • Functioning as a self-starter, who works well independently or in a team • Working independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks and adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice • Handling multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously • Developing effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community • Interacting with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs sanitization, general cleaning and overall maintenance of school facilities (i.e. classrooms, offices, multipurpose spaces) Understanding of Ready Schools Safe Learners operational requirements and the ability to follow these precepts to maintain safety for students and staff. rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment Knowledge of current guidelines for Covid safe cleaning procedures and practices for school environments. Follows a cleaning schedule within an area of responsibility developed by appropriate personnel Arranges furnishings and equipment to prepare spaces for internal and community group activities and events Ensures energy conservation practices are in use Identify and report any unsafe and damaged school building conditions to appropriate personnel Informs students, other site personnel, and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities, safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities Operates all equipment (e.g. lifts and ladders) in a safe manner Performs minor repairs to structures and maintains equipment Maintains communication between office, administration and facilities Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site Evaluates situations to take appropriate action and/or direct the situation to the appropriate personnel for resolution Delivers variety of items (i.e. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties Supports the relationship between the school and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with parents, community members, and other school visitors. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities within the scope of the position • Repairs furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to: • sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time • climb stairs and ladders • lift items weighing on average up to 50 lbs • shift, push and pull furniture, boxes • talk and hear conversations in a potentially noisy environment • use arms, wrists and hands in repetitive movements such as grasping and squeezing • reach for and handle objects • use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus • Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting up to 50 pounds or moving by pushing or pulling up to 100 pounds may also be required on occasion. WORKPLACE EXPECTATIONS: *During COVID - wear a mask at all times - these will be provided by the school. • Maintaining regular and punctual attendance. • Develop substitute roster, and support substitute custodian in case of absence • Maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding information about students, staff, and building operations • Dress in a professional and appropriate manner for the assignment and the work setting • Exercising prudent judgment • Work independently in the performance of routine duties • Follows PVS policies and work procedures • Participate in required meetings and trainings related to the position • Participate in monthly Safety Meetings, and building operations meetings (Fab 5 meetings) • Maintain required licenses/certifications and successfully complete required training for the position • Maintains safety and maintenance records, documentation as required • Tracks inventory and facilitates ordering of materials and equipment in a timely manner • Demonstrate professionalism when working and communicating verbally and nonverbally with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment Applicants with linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
