Main purpose of job: The United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations in New York is one of the UK’s largest diplomatic missions. Your role will be within the Mover & Maintenance Team, an important part of the Estates Team within the Corporate Services Department of the UK Mission. The team ensure the UK’s properties in New York are well maintained and provide a professional appearance to visitors. Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager the Mover & Maintenance Team perform moves of furniture to and general repairs in the official residences, owned and leased properties for officers and the offices. The repairs will be painting, carpentry, tiling & grouting, standard plumbing, standard electrical, etc. The selected candidate will also assists with the preparation and execution of preventative maintenance plans and inspection of works performed by contractors. The individual must care for and maintain Mission assets including the cargo van, tools and other material. Frequent travel around Manhattan and Brooklyn is required. Roles and responsibilities: Undertake moves (removing and delivering furniture) including lifting, carrying and frequently pushing, heavy furniture on dollies and loaded carts; Assembly of office and residential furniture; Carry-out general carpentry, tiling & grouting, painting, plumbing and minor electrical works; Routine and preventative maintenance within properties; Diagnosing and reporting (mechanical) issues, draft scope of work for repairs; Overseeing contractors when professional repairs are necessary; Installation and testing of washer/ dryer and kitchen appliances; Organise and maintain stocks and the warehouse storage facility; Manage domestic float inventories for arriving/departing officers and their families; Driving the Mover & Maintenance van; Ad-hoc tasks related to general maintenance/ repair. The jobholder must have a willingness to learn, continuously improve and work flexibly across a broad range of issues This includes new areas not covered above as portfolios and responsibilities can be adjusted over time. The jobholder must be willing to help others on work which is not part of their usual role at times of pressure and increased workload. Essential qualifications, skills and experience: Minimum 3 years’ recent hands-on experience in repairing, troubleshooting, remodelling properties and maintenance in one or more of the followings areas: electrical, plumbing, carpentry/painting, and installing equipment/household appliances; Recent experience in use of hand and power tools involved in carpentry; Recent experience purchasing and maintaining tools, supplies and material; Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Able to show initiative with limited supervision; A positive attitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn/improve; Able to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Ability to take direction from supervisor; Ability to lift 50 lbs; Ability to draft scopes of work for repairs. A valid US driver’s licence.
