Salem State Regional Vaccination Date Fills Up Fast

SALEM, MA — The 200 available Friday slots for the first regional North Shore coronavirus vaccination clinic at Salem State to include Phase Two-eligible residents filled up quickly when made available Wednesday afternoon. Officials said there will be additional clinics as supplies allow in the coming weeks. The initial attempt at the clinic for Beverly, Danvers, Marblehead, Salem and Swampscott residents 75 or older or eligible under the guidelines of Phase One of the state's vaccination rollout sputtered on Tuesday when the "promised" supply of Pfizer vaccine did not arrive. Friday was intended to be the second of two days of shots this week. Beverly Mayor Mike Cahill said there were 200 available slots for Friday. "I hope as many of you as possible get your appointments for Friday," Cahill said prior to registration opening. "If you don't, please know that we and others will be adding more clinics on a regular basis. And we'll do our best to keep you informed and to try to help you with registering if you need help." Similar to the Phase One clinics at Salem State, the Phase Two clinic will be held on the South Campus at 99 Harrison Road. Appointments were filled on a first-come, first-serve basis with residents asked not to schedule more than one appointment and not to schedule an appointment if they are not currently vaccine-eligible under state guidelines. Salem seniors having trouble making an appointment or without computer access can call the Salem Council on Aging at 978-744-0924, extension 43015 and leave a message. Someone from the social services team will return the call. Beverly residents 75 or older who were looking for an appointment can contact the Mayor's Office at 978-605-2333 or [email protected]. Qualifying Salem veterans may also be able to get the vaccine through the Veterans Affairs system by calling the Salem Veterans Service Office at 978-745-0883. The state's mass vaccination site in Danvers at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton opened on Wednesday with 500 shots expected to be delivered. That site is open to all state residents.
