Melrose Police Swears In 2 Lifelong Residents

MELROSE, MA — The police department this week welcomed two lifelong residents to its ranks. Officers Andrew Ruby and Thomas Grant were sworn in Monday at City Hall. They will next begin a 10-week field training program. "I am excited to welcome these new officers to our department," Mayor Paul Brodeur said in a statement. "They bring outstanding training and experience to the job and have already worked with our kids." Ruby graduated from Roger Williams University with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in psychology. He is involved with the Melrose Youth Hockey and Lacrosse programs. Grant has been working since last February as an officer at Northeastern University, and before that was a transportation security officer at Logan Airport and the assistant site coordinator for the after-school Education Stations program in Melrose. He graduated from the American Academy of Person Training in Boston with a degree in personal training. "Please join me in welcoming these two new officers to the department," Chief Michael Lyle said. "Their experience will make them a great asset to our department and we look forward to working with them as they complete their field training in the coming weeks." The department just in December welcomed three other officers to the force. Alexander Wilson, Ashley Baldwin and Lucas Kaestner are set to finish training next week.
