NEWARK, NJ — The roof of a church in Newark collapsed amid a winter snowstorm on Tuesday, authorities said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, firefighters arrived at Shiloh Baptist Church on Davenport Avenue at 12:05 p.m. after getting a call about a building collapse.
The structure wasn't occupied at the time, and no injuries were reported, a spokesperson told Patch.
The Newark Engineering Department is still probing the cause of the collapse, authorities said Wednesday morning.
News 12 New Jersey posted a photo of the damage, which shows a snow-covered roof in shambles.
The winter storm hit hard in Newark, which saw at least 75 car crashes as the snow came down. "Please stay off the roads unless it's an emergency," officials urged. "Stay safe by staying inside."
