NEWTOWN, CT —Around 68 percent of Newtown residents over the age of 75 have been vaccinated for the coronavirus, according to new data from the state Department of Public Health.
Nearly 1,100 residents 75 and older have received the vaccine as of Monday. Around 9.5 percent of the town's estimated 27,891 residents have received at least one vaccine dose.
Monroe has vaccinated 8.5 percent of its population and about 39 percent of its 75 and older population.
People eligible for the vaccine include frontline healthcare workers, long-term care residents and staff and people 75 and older. State officials project that residents 65 and older will be eligible to make appointments in a couple of weeks.
Frontline essential workers and residents with health issues that place them at greater risk for coronavirus complications are projected to become eligible for appointments in early March, according to DPH projections.
