LAKEWOOD, CO — A new city attorney was hired in Lakewood, officials announced Wednesday. Alison McKenney Brown has nearly three decades of municipal law experience working as a city attorney, a city prosecutor, a law professor and a litigation manager, officials said. Lakewood City Council hired McKenney Brown after making the decision to shift to having a city attorney on staff rather than contracting for those services. "Alison brings a broad range of skills and experiences to Lakewood, and I know her hands-on, constructive approach will result in her making important contributions that will serve the city and City Council in significant ways," said Kathy Hodgson, the city's manager. In addition to providing legal advice to the mayor, council and all city departments, she was involved in redrafting the personnel manual and municipal code, as well as the city's COVID-19 response, federal CARES Act issues, redevelopment projects and ballot measures, officials said. Prior to serving in Englewood, she served as the city attorney for Bel Aire, Kansas; and the city attorney for Haysville, Kansas. McKenney Brown earned her law degree from University of Kansas with an emphasis in water resources and local government, and in the same year, earned her master's degree in public administration from Wichita State University.
