UC San Diego To Open Coronavirus Vaccination Site On Campus

SAN DIEGO, CA — The University of California, San Diego will open a new COVID-19 vaccination superstation Monday on its main campus where it plans to inoculate 5,000 people a day as the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine continues throughout California. The walk-up site will be inside the Recreation, Intramural and Athletic Complex and will cater primarily to eligible patients of UC San Diego Health but will also extend vaccination services to university faculty and staff. Vaccines will only be administered by invitation through the hospital's online appointment process, the university announced. University students and members of the public who are not hospital patients are currently not eligible for vaccination. The vaccination site is another opportunity for the campus to partner with the county toward ending the pandemic, university Chancellor Pradeep Khosla said in a statement. "Our continuing partnership with the County and the opening of this new superstation are parts of our overall commitment to establish the San Diego region as an exemplar for vaccine distribution," he said. The announcement of the university's site comes as other spots across San Diego County become vaccination superstations. The Grossmont Center Mall in La Mesa opened its doors Tuesday for vaccinations. Petco Park has been inoculating people at its drive-thru and walk-up clinic since Jan. 11. UC San Diego Health patients can check their eligibility for the vaccine online.
