LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore City Council will consider Monday reserving the property at 3575 Pacific Ave. for future use by the Livermore Police Department. The 25,000-square-foot site was previously home to the Livermore City Council chambers and is situated near the existing police building at 1110 S. Livermore Ave. A consultant hired by the city found that the needs of the police department have changed in the 30 years that have passed since the building was first built, city officials wrote in a report to the council. Police are in need of additional storage space to house evidence, keep spare parts readily available and ensure equipment is not exposed to the elements. More space is also needed for training and conferences. The city is proposing a phased police facility expansion, beginning with the construction of a 12,000-square-foot storage garage. Another 11,000- to 20,000-square-foot building would be needed for office space, and a 9,000-square-foot training facility is up for approval. Another 1,400 square feet would go toward two four-bed dormitories. Some $8 million would go toward the design of the facility and construction of the garage. Funding for the rest of the project would need to be allocated in the future, the city wrote in its report. Tune in to the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday to see how the council votes.
