MOORESVILLE, NC — The Mooresville Public Library is highlighting famous Black Mooresville residents and North Carolinians this month as part of its February celebration of Black History Month.
The library's adult services department created an online slide show features six famous Black North Carolinians, Librarian Jenneffer Sixkiller told Patch.
The library has also compiled book lists of notable Black authors.
"Our Youth Services department has a fantastic book display for ages birth through 7th grade, and the adult services has some black history books on the new bookshelf," Sixkiller said.
Notable North Carolinians featured in the library's lineup include sculptor Selma Burke, politician and state cabinet member Howard N. Lee, painter Romare Bearden, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, gospel singer Shirley Caesar and Charlotte's first Black mayor, Harvey Gantt.
