Press release from the City of Carlsbad: February 2, 2021 The City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts Office presents its inaugural virtual Family Open Studios and the opportunity to create a collaborative abstract work of art inspired by a local artist. Family Open Studios are free art workshops for all ages and occur in conjunction with exhibitions at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery. This year, Family Open Studios will be a virtual experience offering live art instruction on a scheduled date and free art kits to accompany the corresponding art instruction. Through the generosity of the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts and the Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation, free art kits with all of the supplies needed to learn about and create a hanging wire sculpture will be provided to everyone that registers. Included with the art kits will be a link to the live art instruction Zoom event. The first live art instruction event in this series will showcase the artwork of San Diego artist, Anne Mudge, whose work is also being displayed in the Cannon Art Gallery's current exhibit, Four Visions: A Celebration of the Year of the Woman. Participants have the opportunity to watch a live interview with Anne Mudge, learn about the history of wire art, view artwork from other wire artists, engage in live arts instruction for the art kit project, get tips for creating a wire sculpture and ask questions. "Anne Mudge's work inspires your imagination and sparks creativity which is ideal for Family Open Studios. We encourage participants to see art and the world in a new way and Anne Mudge's talent and unique perspective is great a catalyst to do so!" commented Cultural Arts Manager, Richard Schultz. At a Glance Live Art Instruction Zoom event with artist Anne Mudge is Saturday Feb. 20, 11 a.m. - noon. Zoom link will be posted prior to the event on the Cultural Arts website. Registration for FREE art kits is open now at: carlsbadconnect.org (Library & Cultural Arts tab in pink) Once reserved, art kits will be available for curbside pickup at the Carlsbad City Library and Georgina Cole Library.
