UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Two people were sent to the hospital Tuesday night after what the FDNY thinks was a sledding accident on the Upper West Side. The sledders were injured at 91st Street and Riverside Drive at 6:17 p.m., according to the FDNY. The pair was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, but the FDNY did not specify the injuries. The address is the location of the "Hippo Park Hill," which is one of the most popular sledding spots on the Upper West Side. The hill is popular for several reasons, but one is the size and speed that the Riverside Park slope has. Kids, teenagers, and adults go flying down the steep hill that leads into a metal fence protected by hay barrels. "There aren't a lot of spots to sled in Manhattan and the Hippo Park Hill was my favorite growing up," Upper West Side native Ben Vanden Heuvel told Patch. "But you do have to be careful not to pick up too much speed before the fence."
