Man Fatally Shot By Tucson PD Had Shot His Estranged Wife

TUCSON, AZ — Police identified the officer responsible for fatally shooting a man on Tucson's south side on Monday morning and revealed new details about what led to the death. Officer Alexis Lujan, a member of the Tucson Police Department for more than two years, shot and killed Andrew Scott Kislek, 34, police said. Kislek had followed his estranged wife to her job at the Tucson Veterans Affairs Medical Center Monday morning and hit her car with his car multiple times, the department said in a news release. Kislek then got out of his car and shot at his estranged wife's car, striking her, police said. After Kislek left the parking lot just after 6:30 a.m., Lujan stopped him on a traffic violation at a Circle K near South 6th Avenue and 44th Street. Officers identified the silver car from the medical center as the same one Lujan stopped, though Lujan did not know at the time that the man in the car was a shooting suspect, police said. Lujan fired his weapon during a confrontation between her and Kislek, police said. Kislek died at the scene. Police said Kislek's estranged wife was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The Tucson Police Department's violent crimes unit and members of the department's office of professional standards are each investigating the incident, which is standard procedure, according to the department. Police said they are also working to determine whether Kislek fired his gun before Lujan shot and killed him.
