Temporary/Seasonal Greenhouse Production Assistant

Jobs

951 Techpark Place, Sandston VA

Description

The Growers Exchange grows nearly 200 varieties of herbs and herbaceous perennial starter plants for online retail sales and ships nationwide during the Spring and Fall months. We rely on a small staff of seasonal production workers and shippers to plant, care for and send our plants directly to people's homes all across the United States each season. This Spring, we are looking for TWO greenhouse production workers to assist our Horticulture Manager and her assistant Wednesday - Friday from 8:30-3:30 starting in March. These two workers would be mainly on the planting line, potting up plugs into flats of our 3" pots and laying those flats down in our greenhouse. Other tasks include trimming plants, preparing crops for shipments, tagging flats for our shipping department and moving flats to make space for more crops in the greenhouse. This is a fast paced production job that requires greenhouse assistants to be on their feet, constantly bending over and able to lift at least 50lbs repetitively throughout the work day. You will be part of a team responsible for planting over 120,000 plants in a very short period of time and will have daily goals and tasks that will need to be completed in order to ensure we are on schedule. Experience isn't necessary, but a general knowledge of plant care is preferred. If you have greenhouse production experience then consider yourself moved to the front of the line! Work environment - the greenhouse can reach temperatures in the 80s and 90s during sunny, Spring days so if you are not comfortable working in the heat this may not be your cup of tea. A strong back and comfortable shoes are a must - you'll be walking on concrete all day and picking up/putting down thousands of flats during the season. I can't stress enough - this is a greenhouse production position and you will be required to meet daily/weekly goals. BONUS - any plants that don't sell at the end of our shipping season are yours to take home. These positions start March 1st and typically go through mid June. We close in August, but start back up again in September if you would like to return for the Fall season. Pay is $15/hr Please email your resume along with a cover letter explaining an relevant experience and why you're interested in this position to our Horticulture Manager, Shannon, and she will get back to you very soon. We are hoping to fill these positions within the next couple of weeks.
