Description
Join Columbus Gives Back and Alvis to build a mini-library for a Reading Garden for women in their Amethyst program! Our friends at Alvis recently received funding to build a Reading Garden for their Amethyst ladies and their children! This is awesome, but we need your help! Currently, Amethyst has an empty space in the corner of the parking lot that could be used for bonding, shared experiences, and fun gatherings. Our intent is to completely transform this space so our clients have an area in which to gather outside—instead of the current empty patch outside of the building. They deserve to feel valued, and the space that we are creating will reflect our community’s love and support for the Amethyst families. This garden will encourage peaceful reflection and reading for both moms and their children. We hope that this project will instill feelings of hope and peace for our clients, and encourage reading habits for the children. What: This installment of our volunteer series is specifically focused on building the library portion for the garden! What to Bring: Warm clothes! If you have screwdrivers, hammers, or drills, that would be great, too! When: Saturday, February 20, 1PM - 3PM Event Leaders: [email protected] and [email protected] Where: The Data House, 2049 Builders Pl, Columbus, OH 43204 COVID-19 Precautions: Due to the current stay-at-home advisory in place in Franklin county, Columbus Gives Back is limiting the number/type of events on our calendar through the end of the year. All Columbus Gives Back volunteers are required to wear face masks and observe social distancing as appropriate to complete volunteer tasks. Volunteers who are sick, especially with fever or the growing number of Covid-19 symptoms, should stay home. We highly recommend that our volunteers wash their hands, use hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of the event, and/or wear gloves. We will follow whatever safety policy our nonprofit partners have in addition to the safety precautions listed above. Any volunteers determined to neglect these precautions and put other volunteers or the people we serve at risk will be dismissed from the event. In an effort to keep our volunteers, event leaders, and non-profit partners safe we ask that each volunteer or event leader sign up for no more than one event in a seven-day period, in order to limit the number of individuals you come into contact with if you are exposed to Covid-19. If you were exposed before or test positive after having participated in a CGB event, please contact the event leader or reach out to [email protected] so that we can best support contact tracing efforts. About Alvis: Alvis is a nonprofit human services agency with 50 years of experience providing highly effective treatment programs. Our lines of service include research-based, comprehensive reentry and family support programs; behavioral health and substance abuse treatment services; recovery housing for women and their children; and services to individuals with developmental disabilities who are trying to live more independently in the community. Our mission is to innovate and deliver evidence-based human service programs that empower those we serve to build successful, productive lives. Alvis serves nearly 8,000 men, women, young adults and children in Ohio each year. Our programs indirectly impact tens of thousands more. We work to keep families together and make communities safer. About Amethyst: Amethyst provides trauma-informed behavioral healthcare to resilient women and their amazing children, who are all together working in their recovery. About Columbus Gives Back: Columbus Gives Back coordinates group volunteer events with local non-profits, organizes philanthropic happy hours to raise support and awareness for our non-profit partners, and participates in other philanthropic events while emphasizing our social twist: to have fun with volunteers new and old during and after events in the hopes of creating a culture of community engagement amongst our target audience of young professionals. #SocialTwist: Social Twists have been suspended until further notice, but typically we will also encourage volunteers to join us afterwards for food and drinks to better get to know the other cool folks in our group! Rather we encourage each of our volunteers to support local business during this time.
